Bonding / Resin
Veneers
Bonding is primarily a single visit procedure, where layers of tooth-coloured composite resin are bonded to the surface of your natural tooth. The procedure is very conservative and often does not require the removal of tooth structure to achieve a very natural result.
Bonding is used to repair chips and fractures and can also be used to veneer the surface of a tooth like a porcelain veneer to correct colour and shape or close spaces.
Resin bonding is not as strong as porcelain and is more prone to chipping, fracture and staining. In addition, they require more maintenance to keep them looking good: they do deteriorate over time. Resin veneers cost less initially than porcelain veneers.
Often resin veneers are used as a medium-term diagnostic or temporary stage prior to transitioning to porcelain veneers.
